Mavericks Go 2-1 and Explode for 23 Runs in Final Three Games of the Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The Omaha Mavericks Softball team played Alcorn State and Iowa twice in their final three games of the weekend at the Shamrock Classic in Conway, Arkansas. Omaha erupted for a season high 17 runs to defeat Alcorn State for the second time this weekend to open Saturday's doubleheader. Their fourth game of the weekend was a 6-1 defeat to Iowa but that was followed up with 5-0 shutout victory this morning over the Hawkeyes.

How It Happened
  • Mavericks scored runs in all 5 innings
  • Omaha led 2-1 after two innings
  • The Mavericks rattled off five runs in the 3rd inning behind a Rachel Weber 2-run homerun, an RBI double from Maddox Thomas and two runs scored from a throwing error
  • The 8-run 4th inning was highlighted by seven hits, all singles and doubles
  • Omaha added two more runs in the 5th inning behind an Alex Olson RBI double and a Marra Cramer RBI triple
  • The game was called a run-rule game after the top of the 5th
Game Notes
  • Anna Chapman pitched four innings giving up three hits, one earned run and striking out four
  • 17 runs is a season high for the Mavericks and the most runs scored since they scored 17 against IUPUI on February 22, 2020 
  • Omaha also set season highs for hits (17), RBI's (12), Doubles (5) and Walks (7)
  • 17 hits is the most hits in a game since they had 15 against at South Dakota on April 24, 2022
  • The last time Omaha won a run-rule game was at Western Illinois on May 7, 2022 when they won 9-0 in five innings
  • Rachel Weber went 3-for-4 with four RBI's and one run

How It Happened
  • Iowa scored all six of their runs in the 3rd inning 
  • Omaha registered their one run off a Olivia Aden RBI double to deep left field
  • Sophie Cerveny scored Omaha's one run

Game Two: Omaha 5, Iowa 0
How It Happened
  • The Mavericks led 3-0 after the 2nd inning after Aden, Jaelle Johnson and Ava Rongisch all scored on two Hawkeye throwing errors.
  • Omaha added another run in the 3rd inning to extend their lead to 4-0 when Maddox Thomas crossed home plate due to another Iowa throwing error
  • Omaha scored their fifth and final run off a Rachel Weber RBI single up the middle. Marra Cramer had the run.
  • Kamryn Meyer pithed seven scoreless innings for the Mavericks giving up just two hits and striking out 11
Game Notes
  • The Mavericks registered their first shutout of the 2023 season. Their first shutout since May 15, 2022 in the Summit League Championships against the SDSU Jack Rabbits
  • Meyer's complete game shutout is the first one for the Mavericks since she did it back on May 1, 2021 against Kansas City (12 inn.)
