Softball Splits Day Two of Bulldog Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. - On day two of the Bulldog Invitational, the Omaha Softball team went 1-1 today as they defeated East Tennessee State 6-0 in their first game, before losing a 3-4 nail biter to Mississippi State in game two.

Game One: Omaha 6, East Tennessee State 0
How It Happened
  • Omaha got their first run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd when Lynsey Tucker grounded out to first base which drove in Olivia Aden.
  • Later on in the bottom of the 5th, the Mavericks extended their lead to 2-0 when Marra Cramer stole home on a throwing error from ETSU.
  • Omaha made it 3-0 in the bottom of the 5th when Rachel Weber drove in Tucker with an RBI single.
  • Cramer ripped a two-run triple to left field scoring Aden and Sophie Cerveny making it 5-0.
  • Tucker singled down the left field line scoring Cramer to extend Omaha's lead to 6-0.
  • Abby Flanagan and Kamryn Meyer pitched seven innings of scoreless softball.

Game Notes
  • Flanagan pitched two scoreless innings allowing four hits. Meyer entered in the 3rd inning and gave up just one hit and struck out 11.
  • Cramer and Tucker each registered 2 RBI's .
  • Tucker, Cerveny and Aden each recorded multi-hit games.


Game Two: Omaha 3, Mississippi State 4
How It Happened
  • The Mavericks took advantage of a couple early defensive miscues by the Bulldogs to strike first in the top of the first. Maddox Thomas sent two runners home after reaching on error by the second baseman who sailed her throw into the outfield where the center fielder subsequently committed the second error of the play.
  • Mississippi briefly pulled ahead 3-2 on a fielder's choice in the fourth, but Ava Rongisch tied it back up with a sac fly the next inning.
  • The game remained tied for another inning, before the Bulldogs walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back one-out doubles.

Game Notes
  • Sydney Nuismer got the start and allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings, with Meyer throwing the last 3 innings.
  • Cramer went 2-for-3 in the nightcap, including the lone extra base hit for Omaha with a double in the fourth.
