OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha volleyball team picked up its third straight win Saturday evening, defeating Fort Wayne 3-1 (27-29, 27-25, 25-16, 25-23) at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks are now 9-14 (6-4 Summit League), while the Mastodons drop to 11-16 (3-8).
Leaders for Omaha
Sophomore
Chloe Dousette came off the bench to record a team-leading 11 kills with two blocks. Senior
Amanda Conlin put together one of her best performances of the year, finishing with season highs of 10 kills and seven blocks while hitting .381. She also put up seven digs for the night.
Senior
Sydney O'Shaughnessy notched her team-leading 11th double-double of the year on 47 assists and 19 digs with three kills and two aces.
Freshman
Bella Sade added nine kills with a season-high-tying seven blocks and an ace, and classmate
Anna Blaschko had eight kills with seven stops at the net as well. Junior
Mackenzie Horkey chipped in nine kills, 15 digs, three blocks and an ace.
Defensively, freshman
Claire Mountjoy led the Mavericks with 18 digs, and sophomore
Meagen Roth had 10 more.
Leaders for Fort Wayne
The Mastodons were led by double-doubles from Katie Crowe (12 kills/17 digs) and Nicole Rightnowar (12 kills/19 digs). Sydney Boerst added six blocks, and Elizabeth Britner had a match-high 23 digs.
Team Stats
Omaha outhit Fort Wayne .174 to .145 and had a 15-10 blocking advantage. It was the Mavericks' most blocks of the season and their seventh double-figure blocking effort as a team this year.
Inside Set 1
The Mavericks trailed early until they knotted it at 12-12, the first of eight ties in the opening set. The final tie brought it to 27-27 on a Sade kill, but the Mastodons used two Omaha errors to take the set, 29-27.
Inside Set 2
Omaha turned the tables in the second set, trailing early but outlasting Fort Wayne at the end. Down 12-2 after a 7-0 Mastodon run, the Mavericks came back with a 6-0 spurt of their own, highlighted by three blocks from Sade, Conlin and Blaschko. Omaha continued to chip away and eventually locked it at 20-20 on back-to-back Conlin/Blaschko blocks. Back-and-forth play brought it to 25-25, and the Mavericks finished it off with a Fort Wayne service error and a final block from Dousette and Sade to claim the set at 27-25.
Inside Set 3
Fort Wayne got the opening kill in set three, but Omaha took off from there and never trailed again. The Mavericks hit .324 and were led by seven kills from Conlin, who hit .667 in the game. A 6-0 run with three Conlin kills made it 6-1, and the Mavericks worked out to an 18-9 advantage before Fort Wayne earned its 10th point of the set. Omaha closed on a 3-0 run with back-to-back kills from Conlin and Dousette, and Roth finished it off with an ace for the 25-16 win.
Inside Set 4
The fourth set was decidedly closer, featuring 16 ties and four lead changes. Neither team could gain more than a three-point foothold, and the last tie of the set locked it at 23-23. Following a timeout, Omaha capitalized on a Fort Wayne service error to bring it to match point, and Dousette blasted her sixth kill of the set to put it away at 25-23 for the 3-1 match victory.
