OXFORD, Ohio – The #1 Miami RedHawks scored four unanswered goals to break a tie game and beat the UNO Mavericks 6-2 on Friday night at Steve Cady Arena.  The loss snapped the Mavs’ three-game win streak and drops their record to 16-13-6 overall and 12-12-3-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

The two teams will play again on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CT.  It will be the Mavericks’ final regular season CCHA game.

Miami opened the scoring just 1:41 into the game when Jarod Palmer beat UNO goalie John Faulkner through a screen for his team-leading 15th goal of the year.

The Mavs tied the game at 9:17 when Alex Hudson walked down the right wing and wristed a shot past Miami’s Cody Reichard.

The RedHawks retook the lead on a goal by Brandon Smith, but Hudson retied the game during a five-on-three powerplay.  Eddie DelGrosso set up Hudson for a one-timer that beat Reichard inside the post to make it 2-2 after one.

Miami retook the lead early in the second on a goal by Justin Vaive and later got a five-on-three powerplay goal from Pat Cannone to open up a two-goal lead at the second intermission.

Reilly Smith and Trent Vogelhuber added goals in the third period, Vogelhuber scoring into an empty net.

Faulkner made a season-high 39 saves as Miami fired 45 shots on goal, the most allowed by the Mavericks this season.  Reichard stopped 19 shots for the win.
