Porter Taken By World Champions in Baseball Draft
Evan Porter has been drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies
Secaucus, N.J. - Former UNO shortstop Evan Porter will have an opportunity to play professional baseball after being drafted by the 2008 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies on day one of Major League Baseball's entry draft.  Porter was taken in the 23rd round, 707th overall.

Porter concluded his career at UNO this spring.  He led the Mavericks in hitting with a .424 average.  He also led the team with 97 hits (a school record), 62 RBI and 10 home runs.  The Omaha native was fourth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in batting average and hits.  He is UNO's all-time leader in games played (239), at bats (869), hits (323), doubles (75), home runs (43), runs batted in (249) and total bases (527).  He finished his UNO career with a .372 batting average.

The draft will go through round 30 on Wednesday and conclude with the final 20 rounds of the draft on Thursday from Major League Baseball's television studios in Secaucus, N.J.
