Tischhauser Leads Mavericks at Kaufman-Brand Open

Elite Division Final Results
Omaha, Neb. – Freshman Marvio Tischhauser, wrestling unattached, finished the day with a 5-1 record and a second place finish at 157 en route to claiming the Amateur Division’s award for most falls in the least amount of time at the 2008 Kaufman-Brand Open at the Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday.
Freshman George Ivanov also had a solid performance in the open, taking a third place finish at 133, while wrestling unattached. Other Maverick wrestlers to place in the Amateur Division included fourth place finishes by Tyler Kottas at 141 (unattached); Ryan Pankoke at 165; and Taylor Escamilla at 285.
Cody Garcia (133), Jacob Marrs (197) and Esai Dominguez (149) each finished fourth in the Elite Division, in the their respective weight classes. The only other Maverick to place in the Elite Division was sophomore Mario Morgan who took a sixth place finish at 141.
Jordan Burroughs (Nebraska-Lincoln) was named the Elite Division’s most outstanding wrestler with a title at 157, while Matthew McDonough (Iowa) took the honor in the Amateur Division with title at 133. Along with Tischhauser’s award for most falls in the least amount of time in the Amateur Division, Craig Brester (Nebraska-Lincoln) took the honor in the Elite Division.
The Mavericks will take a two-week break from competition before they head to Cedar Falls, Iowa and compete in the Northern Iowa Open on Dec. 7.
