OMAHA, Neb. – The Maverick women’s basketball team got points from all 13 players in the lineup to earn a 79-51 win over Dana College on Wednesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-1.
The Vikings played stout defense in the early stages of the first half, holding the Mavericks to just 7 points through nearly the first 6 minutes of the game. From there, UNO went on a 13-0 run to take a 20-8 lead with 9:33 remaining in the half. After Dana got a layup from Amanda Bryant to stop the run, the Mavs started another, outscoring their guests 18-8 to close the half. Senior
LaToya Wright led the way with 11 points in the first half including 3 three-pointers. She finished the game with a team-high 13 points. Juniors
Jill Wolf had 8 and
Alyssa Green had 7, and Green pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds.
The Mavericks continued to get contributions from everyone in the second half. Senior
Cayla Hargrove had all eight of her points in the second half including a pair of threes while fellow senior
Amanda Brodsack had 6 more points to finish with 11, second best among Maverick scorers. Green finished with a game-high and career-best 14 rebounds.
Junior and Omaha native Kalen Carlson led the Vikings with 12 points while senior Chelsey Zimmerman had 11.
The Mavericks return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 29 when they host former North Central Conference foe St. Cloud State at 3 p.m.
