OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women’s tennis team fell to Marquette, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Koch Tennis Center. The loss puts the Mavericks at 6-13 (2-2 Summit League) this season.
The Golden Eagles swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The No. 1 pair of junior Michelle Lo and sophomore Janelle Willson fell to Silvia Ambrosio and Paula Tormos Sanchez, 7-6(5), for the closest match in doubles competition.
Marquette won the first five singles matches to seal the 6-1 victory. Freshman Rylee Tucker defeated Isabella Franks, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), at the No. 5 position to give Omaha its only point of the day.
“The overall score doesn’t reflect how close the matches were,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “Halfway through singles we had an opportunity to take the lead in a few matches, but just fell short. Marquette is a really solid team that will do well in the BIG EAST. I’m really happy with the way we battled and pushed them today.”
Omaha returns to the courts on Saturday, April 15, hosting Denver at Noon at Koch Tennis Center.
