MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Omaha women’s tennis team finished its fall slate this weekend at the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships, held at Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center.
The Mavericks picked up a singles match victory courtesy of sophomore Kylie Boyer. The Rochester, Minn., native defeated Missouri State’s Ekaterina Donetskova in the consolation draw, winning the first set 6-1, then leading 3-0 before her opponent retired. Sophomore Janelle Wilson narrowly edged Mariluz Rojo Domingo of St. Louis, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0(6). Doubles action included pair of matches for Boyer and junior Michelle Lo, who dropped decisions to Oklahoma’s Mimi Fotopoulos and Ann Selim, 8-4 in the round of 64, and Nebraska’s Claire Reifeis and Vasanti Shinde, 8-5 in consolation. Freshmen Emily Behling and Riley Tucker also battled in the round of 64, falling 8-4 to Drake’s Tess Herder and Kenya Williams.
“The fall season was a great chance for us to learn who our team is and what we’re capable of,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “I was pleased with how our ladies competed in each match this weekend, even if the result wasn’t what we wanted. We have a talented group for 2016-17, and they’ll continue working hard this off-season to improve.”
