OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women’s tennis team completed play at the two-day Bluejay Invitational Saturday at Koch Family Tennis Center.
For the weekend, the Mavericks won 15 singles matches and eight doubles matches.
In singles play, senior Kenzie Hill defeated Doane’s Montana Laschanzky, 6-0, 6-1, before topping Creighton’s Kendra Lavallee, 6-2, 7-5, and North Dakota’s Aliza Deming, 7-5, 6-2.
Freshman Emily Behling picked up a victory of her own over Doane’s Brianna Kemple, 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Janelle Wilson outlasted North Dakota’s Preethi Kasilingam 4-6, 6-4, 11-9. Junior Michelle Lo also dispatched South Dakota State’s Molly Crum 6-1, 7-5.
Sophomore Kylie Boyer picked up a pair of wins for the weekend over Morgan Brower of SDSU (6-2, 6-2) and South Dakota’s Nanette Nylund (4-6, 6-3, 10-7). Hannah Hills achieved another pair of wins, defeating Creighton’s Claire Embree, 6-1, 6-0, and Doane’s Carissa Moore, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Clare Crockett took down Doane’s Montana Laschanzky, 6-4, 6-3, then edged Jordan Buttermore of Doane (6-2, 6-3). Senior Rebecca Stafford won two more matches with triumphs over Doane’s Sydney Pfeifer, 6-2, 6-2 and Morgan Frushour, 6-1, 6-1.
On the doubles side, Lo and Wilson picked up wins over North Dakota’s Kasilingam and Mimi Yunker and Creighton’s Katherine Nelson and Michaela Henne by identical scores of 6-3. Hills and Crockett also teamed up to win two matches, defeating North Dakota’s Mary Wessman and Alyssa Wolf (6-1) and South Dakota State’s Laura Romero and Zorka Sara Sviben (7-6).
Stafford and Skolaski tallied two more victories over Doane’s Frushour and Pfeifer (6-1) and SDSU’s Romero and Sviben (6-2). Tucker and Hill defeated Doane’s Ashley Zaeske and Carissa Moore (6-2), while Boyer and Behling capped it with a win over North Dakota’s Alysse Nakasato and Alex Revenig (6-0).
The Mavericks return to action Oct. 13-16, traveling to the ITA Central Regional Championships in Minneapolis, Minn.
