MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Omaha women's tennis team capped its weekend at the four-day, 13-team Gopher Invite Sunday afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center.
For the weekend, the Mavericks won 10 singles matches and six doubles matches.
In singles play, junior Michelle Lo defeated North Dakota's Mimi Yunker, 6-1, 6-4, while sophomore Janelle Wilson topped South Dakota State's Morgan Brower, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore Hannah Hills dispatched Milwaukee's Masha Lobanova in a tight match, 7-5, 7-6(1), Northern Iowa's Savanna Hunt, 6-1, 6-2, and South Dakota State's Zorka Sara Sviben in straight sets as well, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Kylie Boyer added another straight-set victory over Natalie Phippen of Iowa State, 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman Rylee Tucker recorded wins over Iowa State's Liera Bender, 6-4, 6-2, and Erin Freeman, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4, as well as Eastern Michigan's Anna Veleva, who withdrew due to injury with the score at 1-4. Fellow freshman Emily Behling tallied a win of her own over ISU's Freeman, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.
On the doubles side, Boyer and Behling won their first match over San Jose State's Gaelle Rey and Tamara Culibrk, 6-2, while Lo and Wilson took a 6-4 win over Milwaukee's Lobanova and Northern Iowa's Elvira Lopez. Lo also teamed up with Boyer for a 6-3 triumph over Culibrk and Diane Flament of SJSU, and Wilson and junior Kenzie Hill took down Hunt and Sydney Wolfe from Northern Iowa, 6-1.
Behling and Tucker snagged a win of their own vs. South Dakota State's Emily Van Dijk and Isabella Chela, 6-4. Tucker also paired up with Hill for a 6-2 triumph over Ella Hassall and Reverning of North Dakota, while Tucker and Hills finished the weekend with a 6-4 victory over Iowa State's Margarita Timakova and Karen Alvarez.
Omaha returns to action next weekend, competing at the Creighton Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
