DJ Sanchez was hired in August 2016 as the seventh head coach in Omaha softball history.

Sanchez has served as the head coach at St. Gregory’s University the past four seasons.  In her four seasons there, she compiled a 172-47 overall record (.785), an 81-25 mark (.764) in the Sooner Athletic Conference and advanced to the NAIA post-season four times.  The Cavaliers won their conference championship last season and twice earned a spot in the NAIA World Series.

Individual accolades have been plentiful during Sanchez’s tenure.  She was twice named the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, coached six All-Americans including 2016 NAIA Player of the Year, Ashli Hafford, and produced 34 All-SAC players at St. Gregory’s.  Additionally, 13 student-athletes received SAC Academic Team honors and the program earned four-straight NAIA National Scholar Team awards.

Prior to her time at St. Gregory’s, Sanchez served as an assistant coach at Kansas working primarily with the Jayhawk pitching staff and catchers.  Under her direction, the KU pitching staff lowered its ERA from 4.24 to 2.84 in two seasons.  During her tenure, she worked closely with pitchers Kristin Martinez and Alicia Pille.  Martinez set the program record for freshman wins in a season (12) in 2011 while Pille broke the freshman wins record in 2012 with 14 wins and had seven shutouts.

Sanchez served as a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma for the 2010 season during which the Sooners won the Big 12 Softball Championship and advanced to a NCAA Super Regional before wrapping their season with a 47-12 overall record. While on staff at OU, Sanchez helped guide the Sooners into one of the top pitching squads in the country as Oklahoma was second in the nation with a 1.39 team ERA. She also was instrumental in developing All-Big 12 First-Team freshman pitcher Keilani Ricketts who led the Big 12 with a 1.24 ERA and 32 wins.

The second overall pick in the 2009 National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft by the Akron Racers, Sanchez was a standout pitcher at Oklahoma from 2006-09 and left as one of the most decorated pitchers in school history. She owns the program's second-best career winning percentage (.768) after going 76-23 in four seasons with the Sooners and posting a 1.90 career ERA. She is listed in the top 10 of seven additional Oklahoma career pitching statistics including third in appearances (138) and victories (76), fourth in strikeouts (597), sixth in innings pitched (637.0) and games started (100), seventh in shutouts (25) and eighth in complete games (54).

During her career as a student-athlete, Sanchez helped the Sooners to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2007 Big 12 Softball Championship. A 2009 NFCA All-Central first team selection, Sanchez also was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team in her senior season after going 18-4 on the year with a 2.25 earned run average. She also garnered second team All-America, first team all-Midwest region and All-Big 12 First Team accolades for her 31-7 record and 1.18 ERA as a junior in 2008.

Sanchez and her husband, Kyle, have one son, Cal.
