LINCOLN, Neb. – Three members of the Omaha track & field team pushed their way into the school's all-time top-10 list at the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday.
The meet was the last for the Mavericks before the Summit League Championships next weekend in Fargo, N.D.
Sophomore Anna Edet posted the fourth-best hammer throw mark in school history with a toss of 158-09, more than 10 feet farther than her previous personal best. She finished seventh overall.
Freshman Nyakuome Thichiot put up the third-best triple jump mark by a Maverick when she won the event with a leap of 38-07. She beat her previous PR by more than a foot.
In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Stephanie Ahrens, running the event for the first time this season, had a time of 14.74 that was good for ninth all-time in UNO history. She took sixth in the event, just ahead of teammate Sasha Quattlebaum who had a PR of 15.33, good for eighth.
In the other track events, Brekk Flax had a personal best in the 100 meters, running a time of 12.53 which put her second.
Junior Kayla Sabotin a group of five Mavericks in the 1,500. She finished third with a PR of 4:44.63, the fastest time run by a Maverick this season. Annie Catania was sixth with a time of 4:50.72, and Anita Jenkins took seventh in a time of 4:54.25, another personal best.
In the 800 meters, senior Alyssa Thavenet won with a time of 2:11.79, just off her PR while Lauren Houston was third at 2:15.08. Karo Garcia, running the event for the first time this season, finished seventh in a PR time of 2:29.53.
The Summit League Championships begin Thursday, May 11.
