More PRs For Mavericks in Iowa

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Omaha track & field team continued its season in Iowa on Thursday and Friday.  Three athletes competed in the Drake Relays in Des Moines while the remainder of the team participated in the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola.

Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison took second place in the 400 at the Kip Javrin Open on Friday.  Mitchell-Jemison posted a time of 58.22.  She was one of three Mavericks in the top 10 of the event.  Daylee Olson was seventh finishing in 1:00.24 and Taleah Williams was 10th at 1:01.10.  All three times were personal bests.

Brekk Flax came in third in the 100 with a time of 12.72.  Flax then posted a personal best in the 200 at 26.22.

In the 5000 meters, Kayla Sabotin was UNO's top finisher at 18:02.99.  Alyssa Averhoff was 18th with a time of 18:16.30.  Karo Garcia secured a personal record time of 18:27.28.

Annie Catania was fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 11:34.75.

In the field, Nyakuome Thichiot was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 36-00 ¾.

At the Drake Relays, Lauren Houston competed in the 800 meters on Thursday, finishing 13th with a time of 2:11.89.  On Friday, Alyssa Thavenet took 11th in the 800 posting a time of 2:14.66.

Stephanie Ahrens posted a seventh-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5-07 ¾.

Next weekend, the Mavericks will compete in the Nebraska Invite in Lincoln on Saturday, May 6.
