BROOKINGS, S.D. – Senior Alyssa Thavenet ran a personal best time in the 800 meters to help the Omaha track & field team earn sixth in the Summit League Indoor Championship on Saturday.
The Mavericks, competing without injured junior Stephanie Ahrens who had the Summit’s top high jump mark this season, finished with 12 points. North Dakota State won the championship with 226 points. South Dakota was the runner up with 206.5 points, and host South Dakota State was third with 128.
Thavenet ran a time of 2:09.46, almost two seconds faster than her previous PR, to finish third and earn six points for the Mavericks and All-Summit League recognition.
In the 5,000 meters, Alyssa Averhoff ran a big PR, clocking a time of 17:57.01 which was more than 30 seconds faster than her previous best. She was 12th overall.
In the field, Nyakuome Thichiot earned a point for the Mavericks in the triple jump. She finished eighth with a mark of 36-02 ¼, tying her personal best.
The Mavericks concluded the championship with a seventh-place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The team of Daylee Olson, Kayla Sabotin, Thavenet and Lauren Houston ran a season-best time of 3:57.63 to earn two points.
The Mavericks will have three weeks off before beginning the outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18.
