Mavericks Hit PRs on Day One of Summit Championships

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Omaha track & field team is tied for seventh after the first day of competition at the Summit League Indoor Championships at South Dakota State.

The Mavericks are tied with Western Illinois with three points each.  North Dakota State leads the meet with 77 points followed by South Dakota at 54.  South Dakota State is third with 38 points.

Alyssa Thavenet advanced to the finals of the 800 meters.  She ran a time of 2:12.53 to qualify sixth in the event.

The distance medley team of Annie Catania, Sarah Steffensmeier, Anita Jenkins and Rosie Gensichen rans a season-best time of 12:31.76 to finish sixth, earning three points for the Mavericks.

In the 60 meters, Brekk Flax put up a personal best of 8.05 in the preliminary heats but did not advance to the finals.

My’Angel Davis ran a PR of 9.54 in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles, but she also did not advance to Saturday’s finals.

The meet concludes on Saturday with the Mavericks first competing in the shot put at noon.
