Vesel, Parizek Earn NCHC Postseason Awards
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Two members of the Omaha hockey team earned post-season awards from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Thursday.
The awards were handed out at the NCHC's annual award ceremony that opens Frozen Four weekend at the Target Center.
Junior Tyler Vesel was the co-winner of the Sportsmanship Award along with North Dakota goaltender Matt Hrynkiw. Vesel was an alternate captain during the 2016-17. Vesel had just three minor penalties all season and has accumulated just 10 minutes in 113 career games. A sixth round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2014, he finished second in team scoring with a career high 35 points while he also ranking third on the team and fourth among forwards in the NCAA with 52 blocked shots.
Senior Justin Parizek was the winner of the Senior Scholar Athlete Award. Parizek currently carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.79 in business and has been a member of both the Chancellor’s List (4.0) and the Dean’s List (3.5 and above). He also is a three-time member of the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team. The Mavericks’ captain finished his final season with 12 goals and 20 points in 33 games this season. He completed his collegiate career with 34 goals and 41 assists for 75 points in 133 games.
Volunteer assistant coach Kirk Thompson also was the co-winner of the NCHC Postgraduate Scholarship along with Western Michigan’s Aaron Hadley.
