Snuggerud Signed by the Chicago Blackhawks

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha junior defenseman Luc Snuggerud signed a contract with the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday and will forgo his senior season with the Mavericks.

Chicago drafted Snuggerud in the fifth round, 141st overall, of the 2014 National Hockey League Draft. He will report to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Snuggerud had a career season with UNO in 2016-17. He was a member of the NCHC All-Conference Second Team, recording career highs in goals (11), assists (20) and points (31) in 39 games.  His goal total led NCHC defenders, and his 31 points were second.  He also ranked third among conference skaters with 18 power-play points.

As a freshman in 2014-15, Snuggerud earned NCHC All-Rookie Team honors after collecting two goals and 14 assists in 39 games.  The Eden Prairie, Minn., native totaled 17 goals and 48 assists in 113 career games and ranks in the top five in career scoring among all UNO defensemen.
