BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Omaha baseball team finished its weekend series at South Dakota State on Sunday, earning a 6-3 win at Erv Huether Field. With the victory, the Mavericks improve to 23-19 (8-8 Summit League), while the Jackrabbits drop to 23-23 (7-7 Summit League).

Sophomore Cole Gruber led the Mavs offensively, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and another driven in. Redshirt freshman Danny Suiter finished 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season, and sophomore Clayton Taylor was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Freshman Mitch Larson (1-1) got the win on the mound, throwing 3.0 innings of relief and keeping SDSU to one run on four hits. The loss went to Ryan Froom (1-1), who gave up two runs on four hits over 4.0 innings. Senior Josh Bullock recorded his fifth save of the year.

Starter Zach Williamsen also threw 4.0 scoreless innings, holding the Jacks to two hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Neither team posted a run until the fifth inning, when Omaha put up four runs on four hits. Senior Tyler Splichal had a two-run single to right center that scored Gruber and junior Daniel Jewett, followed immediately by Suiter's two-run homer to left to make it 4-0.

South Dakota State got one run back in the fifth, as Al Robbins came in on Zach Coppola's RBI single to left.

The Mavericks responded with a run in the sixth with Gruber's RBI single to left that drove in Taylor, as well as another run in the seventh with Taylor's RBI single to center to plate senior Brett Bass and extend the lead to 6-1.

In the eighth, the Jacks loaded the bases with two outs, and a Sam Pack single through the left side scored two runs by way of Coppola and Aaron Machbitz. Senior Anthony Falcone then relieved Tyler Hamer on the mound, closing the inning with a flyout to right.

In the ninth, facing two runners on with one out, Bullock entered the game and got a flyout and a groundout, sealing Omaha's 6-3 win.
