PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Omaha baseball team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, defeating St. Bonaventure 6-2 at the Snowbird Classic. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 1-3 (0-0 Summit League), while the Bonnies fall to 0-4 (0-0 Atlantic 10).
Sophomore Marcus Ethen (1-0) earned his first win of the season with 4.0 innings of relief work. The Omaha native held St. Bonaventure scoreless while allowing just four hits with a career-high-tying five strikeouts.
The loss went to SBU starter Connor Grey (0-1), who surrendered three runs on seven hits. He finished with six strikeouts and three walks.
Senior Tyler Splichal led Omaha with a 3-for-4 day, scoring once and driving in another run. Sophomore Clayton Taylor had two hits -- including his first home run of the year -- and sophomore Cole Gruber also tallied a pair of hits and two RBI for the afternoon.
St. Bonaventure took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Omaha tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, then added another run in the sixth to ahead, 3-2.
UNO notched another three runs in the seventh frame, bringing the final score to 6-2.
Omaha returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 27, facing Chicago State at the Snowbird Classic. The game is set for 1:30 p.m. (CT) in Port Charlotte, Fla.
