OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha men's soccer team put on a dominating display in a 4-0 shutout win over Fort Wayne on Saturday at Caniglia Field in the Summit League finale for both teams.

The Mavs (5-9-1, 3-3 Summit League) scored two goals in a span of 1:25 midway through the first half to take control of the match, which was the first-ever win by a UNO soccer team at the new facility. With the victory, the Mavericks finished with nine points in The Summit League and will finish in a tie for third in the final standings. The Mavs are not eligible for the conference tournament, which the top four teams qualify for, until 2015.

Christian Garcia, fresh off his Summit League Offensive Player of the Week award, scored the first goal of the match at 34:08. Mark Moulton worked his way down the right side and centered a pass across the six-yard box. Craig Buettner dummied it to Garcia, who collected it and finished to the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks had a flurry of chances in the first 30 minutes but couldn't crack the board until Garcia's eventual game-winner.

Just 1:25 later, Garcia assisted Logan Mendez's first goal of the season. Garcia won a loose ball in the box and knocked it toward Mendez, who buried it with his right foot off the left post and in. Garcia now has three goals and two assists in his last two games.

UNO made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute when Sam Langston played in a ball from the left side into the six-yard box. Mendez tapped it to Chava Garcia, who slotted it home from five yards out for his third goal of the season.

Craig Buettner capped the scoring at 77:51 after he gathered a long ball over the top from Felipe da Silva and finished from 15 yards out for his second goal of the season.

The Mavericks outshot IPFW 26-5, a new school record for shots. UNO also had a 13-0 edge in shots on goal. The Mavs have put 13 shots on goal in back-to-back games.

The Mavericks finish the season next Saturday against Incarnate Word on Senior Day at Caniglia Field. UNO will honor its three seniors - Matt Grosey, Craig Buettner and Thomas Torres.
