OMAHA, Neb. - Christian Garcia scored the equalizing goal with 8:58 left and the Omaha men's soccer team picked up a 1-1 draw with Kansas City on Tuesday at the UNO Soccer Field.

Kansas City (1-3-3) took a 1-0 lead with 2:01 left in the second half. Guerrero Pino led Jordan Rideout to the center of the field, and Rideout put home a shot from just outside the box into the left corner.

Despite trailing at the half, the Mavericks (1-5-1) outshot UMKC 5-3 overall in the first period.

In the second half, the Mavericks turned up the pressure and dominated the stat sheet to the tune of 14-2 shots. An already physical game escalated in the 63rd minute with red cards being issued to each team. UMKC goalie Kevin Corby and UNO forward Craig Buettner were both sent off after a melee in the six-yard box.

The Mavericks drew even when Garcia picked out the upper left corner of the net from 25 yards out. Lalo Gamboa earned the assist on Garcia's first goal of his career.

The Mavs kept their foot on the pedal the rest of the way and had numerous chances, including a hit post by Vance Rookwood, a header from Felipe da Silva cleared off the goal line by a defender, and Mark Moulton having two shots on goal saved.

In overtime, the Mavs outshot UMKC 3-1 but couldn't net the winner. UNO finished with a 22-6 shots advantage and 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Mavericks are back at home on Saturday against Western Illinois at 4 p.m.
