OMAHA, Neb. – Senior forward Mikaela Shaw is one of five women’s basketball players selected to the 2016-17 Summit League Academic All-League Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The team was voted upon by the Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors of the league’s nine member institutions, and student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season.
Shaw’s inclusion on the team marks her third straight Academic All-Summit Award. The senior from Deweese, Neb., was the only Summit League player to rank in the top-four in points, assists and rebounds per game this season. The senior second team all-league selection was second in scoring (17.4 ppg), third in assists (3.7 apg) and fourth in rebounds (7.5 rpg) while ranking first in field goals made (204). Shaw concluded her career ranked eighth in league history with 1,809 points and ninth in rebounds (901).
Shaw carries a 3.85 grade-point average with a biology major, and she is a member of the UNO Dean’s List. Earlier this season, she earned a spot on the Summit League All-Tournament team.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The women's basketball all-league team is made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
