Snuggerud Earns Second Defenseman of Week Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced today that Omaha junior defenseman Luc Snuggerud has been named the conference’s Defenseman of the Week.

Snuggerud tied for the team scoring lead in last weekend’s split with No. 8 Western Michigan.  He earned four points on two goals and two assists.  On Friday, he had a power play goal and two assists on three shots and was +1 in Omaha’s 7-6 loss to the Broncos.  The next night, he had another power play tally on five shots and was even in UNO’s 6-3 win.  

Snuggerud leads all NCHC defensemen in scoring with 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points, all career highs.  His goal total also is best among NCHC blue liners.  He currently sits in a tie for sixth in scoring among all NCHC players.  Snuggerud also is third in power play points (7-10-17) and tied for first in power play goals.

This is the second Defenseman of the Week award for Snuggerud who also was honored Nov. 14 following the Mavericks’ sweep at Miami.

Omaha is off this week and will return to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25 at North Dakota.
