OMAHA, Neb. – Junior forward Mikaela Shaw was one of six women’s basketball players selected to the 2015-16 Summit League Academic All-League Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The teams were voted upon by the Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors of the league’s nine member institutions, and student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season.
Shaw’s inclusion on the team marks her second straight Academic All-Summit Award, as she was also on the 2014-15 team. She started all 30 games in her junior campaign en route to first team all-league honors, averaging 18.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 34.5 minutes per game. Shaw had 30 double-figure scoring efforts, including a season-high 31 points against Eastern Illinois, and shot .519 from the field and .755 from the free throw line. She finished the regular season as the leading scorer in the conference, fifth in rebounding, and tied for fifth in assists per game.
Shaw carries a 3.81 grade-point average with a biology major and she is a member of the UNO Dean’s List. Earlier this season, she earned CoSIDA Third Team All-America honors and was named to the Summit League All-Tournament team.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The women's basketball all-league team is made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
