Omaha Drops Two Matches, 7-0, 6-1

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in the National Invitational Tennis Tournament to Grand Canyon University and NJIT, 7-0, 6-1 at the Koch Family Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks end the season with a 6-18 overall record, and it marks the end of Eric McKnight's career at UNO. McKnight finishes with the most doubles wins in both a career and season at UNO, posting a school-record 23 career doubles wins along with a school-best nine doubles wins this season. He finishes second on the all-time singles chart with 20 career wins, trailing only Matt Frost's 21.

Grand Canyon, 7, Omaha, 0
The Mavericks dropped all three doubles matches before losing all six singles matches. Benjamin Collumb and Alexander Roggenkamp of GCU defeated Eric McKnight and Adam Dockery, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while Tyler Mercier and Nathan Greteman fell 8-7 (6-8) at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match saw Colin Buckley and Erik Anderson defeated by Meidy Chazeau and Jacob Spizman, 8-2. 

In singles competition, Dockery picked up a first set win over Ahmad Saleem before falling, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. The other matches were decided in straight sets.

The Mavericks picked up a win at No. 1 doubles before losing the Nos. 2 and 3 matches to drop the doubles point. Eric McKnight and Adam Dockery defeated Andres Alban and Erik Artursson, 8-3 at No. 1, while Tyler Mercier and Nathan Greteman dropped an 8-2 decison at No. 2. In the third and deciding match, Arnuad Holl and Carl Jedlinski defeated Colin Buckley and Erik Anderson, 8-6. 

Mercier was able to rebound in singles play, outlasting Markus Schultz, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 10-2 to pick up the lone point for the Mavericks. The other five matches were decided in straight sets. 

The 2014 National Invitational Tennis Tournament will wrap-up tomorrow with play starting at 9 a.m. from the Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center. The Grand Canyon University women's tennis team will square off against Abilene Christian in one match while the Grand Canyon University men's team will meet NJIT in the other match.
