VERMILLION, S.D. — The UNO women’s tennis team picked up its second conference win of the season, defeating South Dakota, 5-2, on Saturday. With the victory, the Mavs improve to 6-10 (2-1 Summit League), while the Coyotes fall to 8-11 (0-3 Summit League).
The Mavs started the match strong, winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1, senior Alex Tran and sophomore Tiffany Hottman teamed up to defeat Rymma Maslova and Yuliya Sidenko, 8-4. No. 2 saw freshmen Hylan Miller and Kenzie Hill defeat Michelle Elkin and Milica Pavlovic, 8-5. The final doubles match was a battle, but junior Jacqueline Baude and sophomore Molly Matricardi gutted out a 9-7 (7-4) victory over Dragana Brankovic and Yamini Reddy.
In singles play, UNO earned wins at the Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6 positions. At No. 1, Tran defeated Maslova, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. No. 2 saw Miller defeat Pavlovic 6-3, 6-3, while senior Lindsay Weideman defeated Reddy 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4. At No. 6 singles, Hottman defeated Nina Barudzic 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) to finish the match.
The Mavs return to action on Friday, April 18 when they take on Fort Wayne in Denver, Colo. The match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start time.
