FORT WAYNE, IND.—The UNO women’s tennis team dropped its first conference tennis match on Saturday, falling 5-2 to South Dakota State. With the loss, the Mavs fall to 4-9 (1-0 Summit League), while the Jackrabbits improve to 16-6 (3-0 Summit League).
In doubles play, the Mavs started out strong, winning the No. 1 position. Senior Alex Tran and junior Jacqueline Baude defeated Florencia Magni and Jenny Blackburne, 8-5. No. 2 doubles saw sophomores Tiffany Hottman and Molly Matricardi drop a 8-4 match to Iasmin Rosa and Beatriz Souza, while freshmen Hylan Miller and Kenzie Hill fall to Tacy Haws-Lay and Ffion Davies, 8-4, at No. 3.
The Mavericks picked up singles wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. At No. 1, Tran, batted hard and defeated Magni 4-6, 6-1, 10-7. No. 2 singles saw Miller beat Blackburne, 7-5, 6-1. At No. 3, senior Lindsay Weideman lost a close match, 7-5, 6-2.
Omaha returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Bradley at Noon in Peoria, Ill.
