Edetís PR leads Omaha in Opener

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Omaha track & field team opened its indoor season at the K-State Winter Invitational on Saturday.

In the weight throw, Anna Edet placed fourth with a mark of 51-05 ¾, which moves her up to sixth all-time in school history. Lauren Doeschot was seventh with a throw of 44-08.

In the jumps, Stephanie Ahrens won the high jump with a leap of 5-08. Teammate Sydney McAlister jumped 5-00 ¼ to finish in fifth place.

Nyakuome Thichiot and Sasha Quattlebaum tied for a sixth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 15-09.

Thichiot also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 35-02 ½.

On the track, Quattlebaum ran a time of 9.14 in the 60 meter hurdles to finish fourth.

Lauren Houston finished fifth in the 1,000 meters with a personal-best time of 3:03.15 to lead a 5-6-7-8 finish for the Mavericks. Alyssa Thavenet was right behind Houston with a personal-best time of 3:06.14, while Anita Jenkins finished 3:08.99.

Sarah Steffensmeier rounded out the scoring for the Mavericks in the 1,000 meters with an eighth place finish with a time of 3:11.34

The Mavericks are off until Jan. 13 when they compete in the Holiday Inn Invitational at Nebraska.
