NEWTON, Kan. – The Omaha men's golf team is in ninth place after the first day of the Summit League Championship on Monday.
The tournament has been condensed due to rain with two rounds being played to open the tournament.
The Mavericks shot team scores of 313 and 301 to put them at 614. Oral Roberts leads with a total of 586. North Dakota State is second at 592, and South Dakota State is third, one stroke back.
Ben Maskus opened with a round of 78 but came back strong in the second round with a four-under-par score of 68, tying his career best. Beginning on 10, he had four birdies against one bogey over the first nine and added another birdie and eight more pars on the inward nine. He is in a tie for third in the field of 45 golfers with a score of 146.
Mitch Ryan and Kevin Gordon are tied for 30th overall after posting matching scores of 154. Ryan shot 79 to open and 75 in round two while Gordon fired twin scores of 77.
Kelly Brown is fourth for UNO and 41st overall with a total score of 160 that featured rounds of 79 and 81. David Huxham is two strokes back at 162 after carding rounds of 80 and 82.
The final round begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday from the Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
