OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to South Dakota on Wednesday afternoon at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. The loss drops the Mavericks to 6-15 (2-4 Summit League) this season.
South Dakota won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition. The No. 2 pair of freshmen Rylee Tucker and Emily Behling defeated Yuliya Sindenko and Barbora Kollarova, 6-3, for Omaha’s only win in doubles.
The Coyotes claimed four of the six matches in singles competition to earn the 5-2 victory. Sophomore Janelle Wilson, competing at the No. 2 position, defeated Yuliya Sidenko, 6-2, 6-3, to give Omaha its first point of the day. The Mavericks added another point when junior Michelle Lo defeated Ellie Burns, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5, at the No. 1 spot.
“This was a disappointing loss for us today,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “I felt that we were right with them in all matches. We just couldn’t build on our leads that we had. Credit South Dakota for being tough and playing well in big points of the match.”
Omaha returns to action on Saturday, April 22, hosting Creighton at 1 p.m. for Senior Day at Koch Tennis Center.
