PRs Abound For Mavericks Out West

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Junior Stephanie Ahrens picked up a win in the high jump to lead the Omaha track & field team on the first day of competition at two meets in California.

Ahrens won the high jump with a season-best mark of 5-08 3/4 at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State.

In the same meet, the Mavericks registered several personal bests.  

In the other field events, Anna Edet, Lauren Doeschot and Kirsten Leisinger all set personal bests in the hammer throw.  Edet posted a mark of 148-04, more than two feet farther than her previous best.

Doeschot and Leisinger both threw huge PRs.  Doeschot's mark of 145-09 was 14 feet farther than her previous mark while Leisinger was 23 feet beyond her previous PR with a throw of 128-07.

Leisinger also put a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 30-09 1/4 while Doeschot put up a season-best mark in the javelin with a toss of 115-08.

On the track, Kayla Sabotin put up a personal best in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:47.78, good for second place, and Anita Jenkins was fourth at 4:57.13, just shy of her PR.

In the 400 meters, Lauren Houston was ninth with a PR of 57.40.  Alyssa Thavenet also had a personal best in the event with a time of 58.39, good for 13th.

In the 200 meters, both Daylee Olson (26.68) and Brekk Flax (26.81) ran personal bests.

The Mavericks also competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific.  In that meet, Annie Catania ran a 20-second personal best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:35.07.

In the 5,000 meters, Alyssa Averhoff ran a season-best time of 18:17.98.

The Mavericks will continue competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.
