NORMAL, Ill. – The Omaha men’s tennis team lost a 4-2 decision to Illinois State Sunday afternoon at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts. The Mavericks are now 8-11 (2-1 Summit League) overall, while the Redbirds are 7-14 (0-2 MVC).
Senior John Ellis and freshman Razvan Grigorescu each picked up singles victories for Omaha. Ellis earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Peter Foersom at No. 6 singles. Grigorescu picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 over ISU’s Urh Krajnc Domiter.
Illinois State opened the match by taking the doubles point. Sophomore Alex Woodward and freshman Nathan Reekie fell 6-3 at No. 2 to Andreas Boers and Egehan Sertkaya. The Redbirds clinched the point when Dylan Steffens and Christogger Greve defeated senior John Ellis and sophomore Matt Dunn, 6-4.
Omaha returns to the court Friday, April 21, visiting Air Force. First serve in scheduled for 3 p.m. CT in Colorado Springs, Colo.
