OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha baseball team was shut out Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 to North Dakota State at Seymour Smith Park. The Mavericks are now 6-20 (4-4 Summit League), while the Bison improve to 10-15 (3-5).
NDSU's Reed Pfannenstein (2-4) earned the win, throwing 7.2 scoreless innings with four hits, a walk and one strikeout. Senior left-hander Sam Murphy (1-4) took the loss, giving up an unearned run on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work. The save went to Kevin Folman (3), who threw 1.1 scoreless innings.
Junior Adam Caniglia finished 2-for-3 to lead Omaha at the plate.
The Bison scored their lone run in the top of the fourth inning. Logan Busch led off with a walk and Bennett Hostetler reached base on a Maverick throwing error to put two runners on. A Carter Thompson sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, and Danny Palmiscno's RBI groundout plated Busch for the 1-0 tally.
The Mavericks put the tying run on in the bottom of the ninth, as freshman Cole Thibodeau worked a full-count walk to start. A sacrifice bunt by sophomore Parker Smejkal pushed him to second, but back-to-back groundouts capped the game for NDSU.
