Host of Personal Bests For Mavericks at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The Omaha track & field team put up more personal best performances on the second day of competition at the Tulsa Duels on Saturday.  The meet was the first of the outdoor season for the Mavericks.

Omaha got personal bests from everyone in the 400 meters led by Lauren Houston who took third in a time of 57.53.  Alyssa Thavenet was right behind with her own PR of 58.47.  Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison was fifth at 58.83, Daylee Olson was eighth in 1:01.02, and My'Angel Davis was 10th at 1:02.49, all personal bests.

In the longer distances, the Mavericks had five runners in the top nine of the 1,500 meters.  Renata Valquier-Chavez led the Mavericks, coming in fifth in her first appearance in the race with at time of 4:51.35.  Rosie Gensichen posted another sub-five-minute time, running 4:56.31 to come in seventh.  Anita Jenkins was right behind in eighth with a time of 5:00.49, just ahead of teammate Annie Catania who ran 5:00.95.  Both times were PRs.

In the 3,000 meters, Valquier-Chavez was again UNO's top finisher with a time of 10:54.60, good for fifth place.  Karo Garcia, back after redshirting last season, was sixth in a time of 11:06.41.  Catania had another PR in this event, running a time of 11:26.21 which put her eighth.

The Mavericks had strong performances in the field events as well.  Stephanie Ahrens won the high jump with a leap of 5-07.

Nyakuome Thichiot won the triple jump with a leap of 36-08 ½ while Sasha Quattlebaum was second with a mark of 35-07 ¼.  As freshmen, both jumps were PRs.  Taleah Williams was third at 34-05 ½.

Williams was UNO's top performer in the long jump with a mark of 16-10.  Quattlebaum was seventh in 16-07 ¾, and Thichiot took eighth with a jump of 16-00 ¼.

In the shot put, Anna Edet posted a personal best with a toss of 41-06 ½.

The Mavericks return to action at the Emporia State Relays on Saturday, April 1.
