LAWRENCE, Kan. – LSU's pitching staff weaved a four-hit shutout Friday morning, as the Omaha softball team fell 7-0 at Rock Chalk Park. The Mavericks are now 8-15 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the No. 12/13 Tigers improve to 21-6 (1-2 SEC).
Allie Walljasper (8-1) picked up the complete-game victory for LSU, limiting the Mavericks to four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander Laura Roecker (5-7) took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing six runs – four earned – on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Senior Lia Mancuso went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double to lead the Mavericks. Freshman Emma Dargy finished the morning 1-for-3.
LSU totaled 10 hits for the day, led by two apiece from Emily Griggs (2-for-4, two runs, RBI) and Bailey Landry (2-for-4, home run, two runs, three RBI).
The Tigers struck first with a two-run, two-hit bottom of the first inning. Griggs and Landry opened with back-to-back singles before a walk to Sahvanna Jaquish loaded the bases. Landry and Jaquish moved up a base and Griggs scored on a wild pitch. Two batters later Amanda Doyle lofted a sacrifice fly to right scoring Landry.
LSU added four runs on three hits and an error in the second. The first three batters of the inning reached on a pair of hits and an error. Griggs drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Landry cleared the bases with a home run over the center field wall for a 6-0 lead.
The Tigers added a run with two hits in the fourth. After Nicky Dawson had walked and Griggs singled, Sydney Springfield delivered a two-out double to make the final score 7-0.
