PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Omaha men’s golf team is 16th after the first two rounds of the GCU Invitational on Friday at Grand Canyon.
The Mavericks shot team scores of 303 and 302 for a total of 605 over the first 36 holes at the GCU Championship Golf Course. Duke leads the event with a two-round total of 556. Eastern Michigan is second at 559, and Grand Canyon is third at 562.
Mitch Ryan led the Mavericks in scoring with back-to-back rounds of 73, his third-best scores of the season, to sit at 146. That puts him in a tie for 46th.
Ben Maskus is second for the Mavericks and is in a tie for 65th with a score of 149 that included cards of 77 and 72. The latter was a team best on day one.
Kevin Gordon is third for UNO with a score of 154. He shots rounds of 76 and 78 to put him in a tie for 83rd. David Huxham was two strokes back at 156, a total that included rounds of 77 and 79. He is tied for 86th.
Max Hellstrom concluded the scoring for UNO with scores of 80 and 79 that have him at 159, good for a tie for 91st.
The second round begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
