OMAHA, Neb. – The field has been set for next weekend’s 2017 Summit League Women’s Basketball Championship, the league office announced Saturday evening. Fifth-seeded Omaha is one of eight teams set to compete at the tournament, March 4-7 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The tournament champion advances to the NCAA Tournament as the league’s automatic bid.
The Mavericks (15-14, 8-8 Summit League) will make their second Summit League Tournament appearance when they face No. 4 seed South Dakota (22-7, 11-5 Summit League) on Sunday, March 5 at noon. Midco Sports Network and ESPN3 will broadcast the game live.
Western Illinois (23-6, 13-3) earned the Summit League regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2006. The Leathernecks meet No. 8 seed Denver (6-23, 3-13) Saturday, March 4, at Noon on Midco Sports Network and ESPN3.
The second quarterfinal features No. 2 seed IUPUI (22-7, 12-4) against No. 7 seed North Dakota State (6-23, 4-12) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, on Midco Sports Network and ESPN3.
Omaha and South Dakota kickoff Sunday’s quarterfinal action at noon. The final quarterfinal features reigning champion and No. 3-seeded South Dakota State (21-7, 12-4) against No. 6 Oral Roberts (15-14, 7-9). Both games will air live on Midco Sports Network and ESPN3.
The semifinals begin on Monday, March 6, with the winner of the No. 1 vs. No. 8 game against the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 game at Noon. The second semifinal features the winners of the No. 2 vs. No. 7 and No. 3 vs. No 6 games at 2:30 p.m. Midco Sports Network and ESPN3 will air both semifinal games.
The championship game is set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, and ESPNU will broadcast the game live with Clay Matvick and Angel Gray on the call.
