Thavenet Leads Mavericks on Day Two at SDSU

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Senior Alyssa Thavenet ran the fourth-fastest 800 meter time in school history to pace the Omaha track & field team on the final day of the SDSU Indoor Classic at South Dakota State.

Thavenet ran a personal best time of 2:11.06 to best the field of 73 runners at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.  Lauren Houston also finished in the top eight, running a time of 2:13.90 to take sixth place.

Thavenet also was part of UNO’s 4 x 400 meter relay team, teaming with Sydnee Mitchell-Jemison, Houston and Kayla Sabotin to take eighth with a time of 3:58.55.  It’s the fastest time the Mavericks have posted in the event in two years.

Mitchell-Jemison earned her own personal best, clocking a time of 58.31 in the unseeded section of the 400 meter dash.

Sabotin also put up a personal best, running 5:07.22 in the mile to place ninth.  It was three and a half seconds faster than her previous PR.

The Mavericks will compete in two meets next Friday, Feb. 17 in preparation for the Summit League Championship.  They’ll be in Lincoln for the Nebraska Tune-Up and also at the USD Twilight at South Dakota.
