OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior infielder Sam Palensky was named to the 2017 Summit League Baseball Academic All-League Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Palensky led the Mavericks with a .289 batting average this season with 34 runs scored, 12 RBI, 20 walks and seven stolen bases. He also tallied a team-leading 15 multi-hit performances along with four multi-RBI games.
Palensky graduated in May with his bachelor's degree in general studies with a concentration in mathematics, having carried a 3.76 grade-point average. He is a member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll and Distinguished Scholars List, as well as the UNO Chancellor's List and Dean's List.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), have completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers in baseball and softball who must have participated in 20 percent of their team's total contests. The baseball all-league team is made up of the nine student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
